Meet the Midwife

Shannon Greika, CPM, CDEM

Shannon Greika is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Indiana-licensed Certified Direct Entry Midwife (CDEM) serving families throughout Central Indiana. She earned her Associate of Science in Midwifery from the Midwives College of Utah and has dedicated her career to providing safe, compassionate home birth care.

Shannon believes pregnancy and birth are natural, physiological processes that work best with respectful, attentive, and individualized care. She provides evidence-based monitoring throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period, and collaborates with physicians when needed to ensure safety. Her approach centers on shared decision-making, nourishment, education, and creating an unhurried environment where families feel confident and supported.

Her journey into midwifery has been a long one starting with the birth of her own children. Each birth transformed her in so many ways which gave her a calling to serve mothers and babies.
Shannon’s career in birth services first began as a doula certified through Doulas of North America (DONA) working for Community Heath Network and in private practice. Shannon then apprenticed with a home birth certified nurse midwife for 3 1/2 years and birth assisted for several other home birth midwives. She also spent 6 weeks in the Philippines working in a high volume birth center delivering babies as a student midwife under supervision. Additionally, Shannon stays current on relevant midwifery topics attending appropriate continuing education workshops and trainings. And lastly, Shannon has had the honor and privilege of being a NARM midwife preceptor, training several midwifery students, including participating in the training of three other wonderful local area midwives.
During her free time she enjoys music, outdoors, art & crafts, reading and spending time with friends and family.  Shannon has 3 children, 2 cats and enjoys living in old town Greenwood.

Meet Our Birth Assistant Laura Shackelford

Laura Shackelford serves as a birth assistant, office manager, and phlebotomist with midwife Shannon. She brings a deep passion for physiological birth and a strong commitment to supporting families through informed, compassionate, and evidence-based care.

Laura is DONA trained, a certified phlebotomist, and trained in Spinning Babies® and the Body Ready Method® (BRM). She is currently working toward becoming a certified BRM pro-teacher and looks forward to incorporating body awareness, preparedness, and movement into her work through movement, understanding and a holistic, divinely guided birth practice.

She loves all things birth and is especially passionate about home birth. She firmly believes that women’s bodies are created to do this amazing work and deserve trust, respect, and support.

Laura has also spent two months serving in a rural hospital in Bangladesh, where she supported approximately 200 women through birth—an experience that deeply shaped her perspective on global maternal care and the strength of birthing women across cultures.

Outside of her work, Laura enjoys growing in her faith and investing in her community. She loves the outdoors and travel, especially skiing, hiking, kayaking, and experiencing different cultures around the world. She is supported by a wonderful and understanding husband, has four grown children, and is a proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren.

Our Customers Say About Us

Having my first child in my own home was the best decision I could have made! Ever since I was in high school I knew I wanted to have a home birth when the time allowed. There is something so natural about having a baby in your own home that has always appealed to me. It is what has been done for ages. Women have home births all the time, so why couldn't I? A wise woman once told me, "you're going to be in pain regardless of where you are (referring to labor) so why not be in pain in the comfort of your own home?".

So at the age of 25, with our first baby on the way, my husband and I began exploring our midwifery options here in Indiana. As my husband and I are both in the medical field as nurses, we were interested in a professional that could provide a safe avenue for delivery without the hospital setting. And Shannon could not have been a better midwife to me and my family! Not only was she extremely professional, but she was easy to talk to, comforting, knowledgeable, and provided the best care for me during prenatal visits, delivery and postpartum care. If I hadn't had a home birth, I'm almost positive I would have ended up in a c-section due to the length of my pregnancy (42 weeks and 2 days) and length of my delivery (about 30 hours). But Shannon made me feel so comfortable and she knew exactly what positions my body needed to be in during labor to progress my baby and provide a safe delivery!

My husband and I only have the best things to say about her care! She is easy to get a hold of in the middle of the night when you "just need some reassurance", she is up to date in all her research, and she truly has a passion for midwifery! I definitely recommend her and would not hesitate to have her midwife future home births for my family!

Each birth presents a new story. A story that is as unique as the child who is just beginning their life journey. Birth can be a time of fear for some, as well as joy. Pain mingles with happiness mostly, though sorrow can also be the result.

I've had opportunity to experience birth 11 times. Each a new story. Two of the births brought the sorrow of three dear children, never to experience life as we do. The other nine births represent precious life ushered in diversely-some in the hospital, some with complication, some at home with midwives, some unassisted. I did not write each of these stories, but I did anticipate and plan for the days.

In planning my last birth, my husband and I chose to be at home under the watchful eye of midwife, Shannon Greika (and her lovely backups!). From my first prenatal to the last well baby checkup, I was so blessed by Shannon's sweet spirit, medical professionalism, and thorough care for myself, as well as our baby boy. She was a wealth of encouragement and accountability, helping me to keep on top of blood sugar issues and slow weight gain for baby. Shannon's ability to assess a situation, be forthright, and maintain bedside manners with gentleness is spot on. Her flexibility for her client's birth plan is gracefully matched with wisdom. I also love Shannon's desire to connect with other professionals for the purpose of maintaining open relationships. These are helpful resources, whether needing a pediatrician, or in case of an emergency arising.

We are so blessed to have had Shannon as part of Simeon's story. I highly recommend adding her to your birth plan!
